Project involved a comprehensive renovation of an upstairs bathroom that required significant structural work as well as stylish finishing touches. What started as a dated space has been transformed into a modern sanctuary featuring a stunning sage green colour scheme with black accents.
Starting from Scratch
Before we could focus on the aesthetics, we had to address several structural issues. The renovation began with a complete strip-out of all existing bathroom fixtures and fittings. Upon removal of the old flooring, we discovered significant rot in the original timber, requiring immediate attention.
To ensure a solid foundation, we reinforced the existing floor joists with new timber beams for added support, followed by installing new chipboard decking topped with cement boards. This created a robust, water-resistant base that would stand the test of time and provide proper support for the new fixtures.
Plumbing and Electrical Overhaul
The next phase involved a complete reconfiguration of the plumbing and electrical systems. We relocated water supply lines and waste pipes to accommodate the new layout, which included separate zones for the freestanding bath, WC, vanity unit, and shower enclosure. All electrical elements were updated to current UK regulations, including new spotlights and an extraction system.
The Finishing Touches
The bathroom’s distinctive look comes from the large-format sage green porcelain tiles covering both walls and floor. These tiles create a seamless appearance with minimal grout lines, making the space feel larger and more serene.
Key features of the finished bathroom include:
- A luxurious freestanding white bath with black fixtures
- A custom corner shower enclosure with black-framed industrial-style glass panels and a rainfall shower head
- A wall-hung vanity unit with a textured front panel and white basin
- A contemporary black WC
- A stylish copper-toned vertical towel radiator that serves as both a practical heating element and a design feature
- A circular mirror that enhances the space and complements the modern aesthetic
- A tall window providing natural light while maintaining privacy
The Result
The finished bathroom successfully balances contemporary design with practical functionality. The dark green tiles against the crisp white sanitaryware create a sophisticated contrast, while the black fixtures and shower enclosure add an industrial-chic element that’s very current in UK bathroom design.
