We recently completed a comprehensive bathroom renovation on the first floor, transforming a dated space into a modern, elegant room. The project involved a complete strip-out and rebuild, showcasing the dramatic difference that professional refurbishment can make.
Demolition and Preparation
The first stage involved carefully removing all existing fixtures and fittings. We stripped out the old brown wall tiles, dismantled the existing shower enclosure, and removed the outdated sanitaryware. The original flooring was also lifted to prepare for the new installation. This phase revealed the bare walls and concrete floor, providing us with a clean canvas for the renovation.
Floor and Wall Tiling
We selected stunning grey marble-effect porcelain tiles for both the floor and walls, creating a cohesive and luxurious finish throughout the space. The large format tiles were carefully laid with precision, ensuring perfect alignment and minimal grout lines. The marble pattern adds depth and sophistication to the room whilst maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.
The wall tiling extends fully around the shower area and partway up the remaining walls, providing both practical water protection and visual continuity. Each tile was meticulously positioned to ensure the marble veining flowed naturally across the surfaces.
Ceiling and Paintwork
The ceiling received a fresh coat of crisp white emulsion paint, complementing the grey tiling below and enhancing the overall brightness of the space. All paintwork was completed to a high standard, with careful attention to cutting-in around the light fittings.
New Installations
WC and Basin
We installed a modern close-coupled WC with a sleek, contemporary design. The new wall-hung vanity unit features a matching grey finish that coordinates beautifully with the tiling, topped with a stylish white ceramic basin and chrome mixer tap.
Shower Enclosure
The shower area now features a spacious walk-in design with sliding glass doors and a chrome frame. We fitted a new white acrylic shower tray and installed a modern thermostatic shower valve with an overhead rainfall shower head, creating a spa-like experience.
Additional Features
A chrome heated towel rail was positioned strategically for both functionality and visual balance, whilst built-in shower shelving provides practical storage within the enclosure.
The Final Result
The transformation is remarkable – what was once a tired, dated bathroom is now a sophisticated, modern space that maximises both style and functionality. The neutral grey and white colour palette creates a timeless appeal that will remain fashionable for years to come.
